Liverpool retailer fined over Health & Safety breach
Monday 18 January 2010Liverpool discount retailer TJ Morris has been fined £4,500 after an incident in September 2009 when a 2 year old girl was struck by a falling box. The box contained a 22kg garden pergoda.
The company, which trades on the High Street as "Home Bargains", pleaded guilty to breaching the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
The case highlights the responsibility of businesses to ensure that all staff, visitors and customers are kept free from harm when they enter business premises. It is notable that during the hearing it was determined that the accident in this case could have been entirely and easily avoided.
